Why They Call it Work
Getting paid to do what one loves is undeniably awesome.
Of course, a job is a job, and with any job there will be aspects that occasionally chafe.
For example, having a project that really needs to get done at an hour of the day in which inspiration is simply not available. At 6:50am on a Monday, I have already spent a good portion of the last hour trying to find an example of a type treatment that I feel works for the package I'm designing, and though I felt the concept was decent, in application, it seems less than ideal. What I would like to do is go sit in a coffee shop for an hour and drink more coffee and let my numb mind surf the internet while letting my subconscious mull, after which I would, perhaps, go to a store and browse packaging in search of inspiration. Or even. still be asleep right now, and work into the small hours rather than waking in them. And probably scratch this design and return to one of my alternate ideas or even the drawing board.
Unfortunately, with us behind on packaging, and myself somehow having gotten place on a somewhat high-profile project that will require attention this afternoon, that measured approach isn't possible. Instead, I need to find inspiration, get the package to a place it is 'good enough' and accept that it won't be one of the jewels of my gallery.
On the other hand, I do get to watch the new animated Avengers series while I do so.
***EDIT***
And sure enough, darn it, I actually just was struck with an idea that I think would work well. Absolutely better than the existing concept. Unfortunately, it is time prohibitave.
